This is our first Quarterly meeting without the elected Chair of the Coalition for the Oral Health for the Aging, Bonnie Nothoff. Bonnie passed at home on July 9, 2013.
Bonnie was there in the beginning of COHA when she first met Dr. Elisa Ghezzi at a MI Oral Health Coalition meeting in 2006. Bonnie and Elisa both shared a passion for the Aging population and their need for good oral health. So began the “capped crusaders” journey to make forward strides in the name of “Best Practices in Oral Healthcare for the Older Adults”.
Bonnie was an RDH and was a great resource for COHA because of her 29 years of being an advocate for Preventive dentistry in the State of Michigan (She became an RDH in 1984) . Bonnie engaged herself in the political and legislative arenas in effort to make a difference for the citizens in Michigan. She made many friends and at times enemies at National, State and local levels as she networked and maneuvered through organizations to advocate for Oral Health. Her passion and determination was inspiring.
COHA was blessed and fortunate to have her as a team member. Bonnie was a major contributor, resource, promoter and developer for this Coalition. She is dearly missed here at COHA and will always be remember as we move the “crusade” forward.
Presented by Lisa Darrow, RDH at the October 11, 2013 COHA Meeting
