Oral Health and Dementia Webinar
Date: December 10, 2014 |Time: 1:00 - 2:00 PM (ET)
Featuring:
Elaine Amella, PhD, RN, FAAN
Pam Stein DMD, MPH
Rita Jablonski, PhD, RN, ANP
As adults age, experience frailty, and suffer from conditions such as dementia, the management of oral health care may become more difficult and pose challenges to care providers and family. Studies have shown that dementia should be considered a major influence on a person’s oral health. Although people who are experiencing a cognitive decline face additional challenges maintaining positive oral hygiene, it does not have to have a negative effect on their quality of life. This webinar, put on by NICHE (Nurses Improving Care for Healthsystem Elders), the Hartford Institute for Geriatric Nursing (HIGN), and the Oral Health Nursing Education and Practice (OHNEP) program, will discuss key oral health problems for older adults with dementia and interprofessional assessment and treatment strategies.
